Elephant and Family
Elephant and Family, Mara North Conservancy, Kenya
We had looked for a group of elephants with a clear background so we could use the monopods and remote shutter. This technique means you need to hang out of the jeep holding the monopod with the camera on the floor, screen pointing upwards. The other hand holds the remote shutter. You have to simultaneously try and compose your shot looking at both the animals and the screen, focus the lens, and not drop the camera. It's exhausting!
The benefit of the approach is you can have the lens as close to the floor as possible and create a perspective that shows the enormity and majesty of the elephants as they pass by.
In this image, the matriarch breaks off the herd creating a distinct depth of field to the image, as the family pass on by in the background.
This image is also available in black and white for a dramatic alternative perspective.

A note on sizing
All sizes refer to the image area only — the border, mount, and frame add to the overall dimensions. If you’re buying for a specific wall space or an existing frame, please factor this in. Not sure? Drop me a message and I’ll help you work it out.
Something else in mind?
Different size, different frame, different format entirely — I’m happy to help. Get in touch via the Contact page and I’ll do my best to sort it.
All prints are supplied without watermark or copyright overlay.
