Namunyak I
Namunyak I, Mara North Conservancy, Kenya
Namunyak had been treating the acacia like a personal assault course for the better part of an hour — up one branch, down another, across the junction, back again — with the total physical commitment of a young leopard for whom consequence has not yet become a useful concept.
This frame came late in that sequence. He had identified the next branch, made the calculation, and was a fraction of a second from leaving the one he was on. The right rear foot is still in contact with the wood. The front right foot is raised and poised. The eye — and this is what makes the image — is locked completely on the target branch with a focus so absolute. The body is coiled energy held momentarily still. Everything is about what happens next.
Against a clean sky background, with nothing behind him to fragment the composition or compete with the subject, the image becomes a study in suspended motion. The branch he is leaving runs diagonally through the lower frame, giving it direction and tension. Namunyak occupies the upper portion — compact, precise, mid-decision — with the open sky behind him providing a clarity that this particular moment needed and rarely gets.
Black and white was the only choice. The detail that matters here is not the rosette pattern of the coat or the colour of the eye — it is the mechanics of the body and the intensity of the gaze. Monochrome strips the image back to exactly those two things and nothing else. Texture, line, focus, tension.

A note on sizing
All sizes refer to the image area only — the border, mount, and frame add to the overall dimensions. If you’re buying for a specific wall space or an existing frame, please factor this in. Not sure? Drop me a message and I’ll help you work it out.
Something else in mind?
Different size, different frame, different format entirely — I’m happy to help. Get in touch via the Contact page and I’ll do my best to sort it.
